What is Montessori?

The Montessori method of teaching was developed by Maria Montessori in the late 1900’s. With the opening of Montessori's first school in 1907 in Rome, her surname became associated with schools that used her educational approach to children as well as her educational materials tailored to children's developmental needs. Many schools throughout the world implement her approach to education for a wide range of ages.

One distinguishing feature of a Montessori school is that children direct their own learning, choosing among the sections of a well structured and stocked classroom, including Practical Life (fine and gross motor skills), Sensorial (senses and brain), Language, Mathematics, Geography, Science, and Art.

Montessori Education Trust for Cambridge

and Waipa - METCAW

The main purpose of METCAW is to provide a quality Montessori education and learning facility for children in the Cambridge, Waipa District.

METCAW founded a Montessori classroom for six to nine year old children at Te Miro Primary School in 2008.

The establishment of this class room was brought about by a small group of dedicated parents, who worked tirelessly to achieve a goal that many people thought would never happen. METCAW is a Registered Charitable Trust, an Incorporated Society and Non Profit Organisation.
